Both the companies would be marketing the application to mobile operators who could then offer service packages which include iSkoot and it would get a share in the revenue. The iSkoot interface would enable users to see their online buddies and even check their SkypeOut account balance. The user could also change his status and even the contact list could be refreshed.
This is how it would work. When one makes use of the software to make a call, a regular voice call is dialed to an iSkoot gateway server and then the call is transferred to Skype's VoIP system. The caller has to pay for the call to the server from their cell phone calling plan. The remaining part of the call is free in the case of a computer or SkypeOut rates are charged if the call is to a regular phone. For a limited period of time free use of the gateway network is being offered but later on a flat rate would be charged. As of now the gateway is available in U.S. and later on would be available in Asia and Europe.
Already some telecom companies are jittery about Mobile VoIP applications as this could affect the lucrative circuit switched voice revenues. Carriers would gain from iSkoot as it would enable them to make money from VoIP calls.
