Skype has claimed their paying users don't want interoperability with other carriers. Well I think the rest of us aren't believing that for a second! In fact, some enterprising folks have figured out how to work around this.

This is done through a service called Net2Max, which is a service that is a kind of "Unified Communications" platform, for lack of a better word. Their service offering is complex, but fortunately, someone wrote some step-by-step instructions for how to configure the service so that you get a SIP URL for your Skype ID-for free, even!

So, Skype, about lack of interoperability with SIP providers...

If you are a little computer savy, you can do this yourself with some software on your skype computer. Try SippySkype at http://www.mhspot.com

Still sounds like too much work. Neither of these solutions are particularly elegant.
