Google Voice Desktop Client for desktop computers and laptop computers being tested internally

With Google Voice, the company is expected to emerge as a serious contender in the world of VoIP. Google Voice, a desktop client app for Voice, is still in private beta with few million users.

Google Voice is said to be based on Gizmo5 technology and is meant for sending and receiving calls. It will enable users to make calls on their desktop computers or laptop computers and even receive them using their Voice number. This implies people can be reached with a single number inspite of their location and whatever device they are using.

It has been reported that Google Voice might be launched pretty soon but we all know that Google has the habit of testing products and features extensively before launching them.

I believe Skype which is one of the leaders in VoIP technology must be working on a strategy to counter Google Voice when it is launched, after all who would like to be toppled from the numero uno position.

I think Skype and Google Voice will both have a place and remain viable and competitive in this market space. I also think, however, you will not see either of this entities, or this type of VoIP venture into the PBX realm. Its another world when it comes to VoIP requiring serious support, commitment and dedication for the customers. I don’t see either of these services, or this sector straying into the PBX sector anytime in the future.
