High Quality Skype Video On the Mac?
Filed in archive skype by Dameon Welch-Abemathy on November 6, 2007

In yesterday's post about Skype's High Quality Video, Dan York posted a comment saying it was possible to enable the high-Quality video support in the Mac version. I was able to find this relatively simple change that needs to be made documented on the Skype Developer Zone.
Guess what? Didn't work. Both Dan and I are MacBook users using a relatively recent beta copy of Skype (2.7.0.49). All we were able to manage to get was the standard 320x240 resolution. The video quality was okay, though I did notice periods of blockiness as well as the audio and video getting out of sync.
I am going to test the high quality quality video on a Windows XP machine. The Skype PR folks contacted me and are sending me a "supported" Logitech camera for my testing purposes. I plan on doing a comparison with SightSpeed using like conditions.
