The folks at iotum are putting the finishing touches on their Free Conference Calling application for Facebook. You can now invite your US/Canada-based Facebook peeps to a free conference call using Facebook.
I got invited to a conference call yesterday. The message not only showed up in my facebook Inbox, but I got a text message informing me there was a conference call scheduled. I called the number I was given, it knew who I was based on the phone number I called from, and connected me to the conference bridge. About as easy as it gets.
Inside Facebook, you can manage whether or not you're attending (as a participant) as well as see who is connected to the conference bridge, which is shown in the picture above. As the organizer, you can specify whether or not a call is public, i.e. listed so others can see (and join) the call, who is invited, and what the agenda is.
There is some room for improvement, of course, but it's a great start. International support is forthcoming along with other tweaks and fixes. Give it a try and let me know what you think!
