JAJAH this week introduced a new solution that turns the iPod touch into a fully functioning VoIP phone, supporting voice calling and SMS messaging over Wi-Fi.
"The company says it is considering a release on the iPhone App store, but initially their plan is to sell this as an ipod touch white-label application for wireless carriers to provide the service under their own brand with a monthly subscription fee attached," writes TechSpot's Jose Vilches.
"Millions of people around the world already have an iPod touch in their pocket," notes company CEO Trevor Healy. "With JAJAH's solution, any company can turn their customers' iPod touch into a fully functioning mobile phone. The device is particularly popular amongst students, who live in a world where Wi-Fi access is always available and, like everyone, they are looking to save costs, so this is a perfect solution."
"The difference between Apple's iPhone and its iPod Touch used to be a pretty bright line: One is a telephone and the other is not," writes eWeek's Roy Mark. "That difference, though, is starting to fade."
