Web-savvy Italian mafiosi have apparently learned to cover their tracks using VoIP…

"Police in Milan have issued a warning that criminals of all kinds have been turning to Internet VoIP calls, rather than mobiles, to make arrangements by phone, with Skype heavily favored," writes Digital Trends' Christopher Nickson. "Why Skype? That's because the calls are encrypted, and to date the company hasn't shared the encryption key with authorities, leaving criminals safe, and police out in the cold."

"Customs and tax police in Milan have highlighted the Skype issue," notes BBC News' David Willey. "They overheard a suspected cocaine trafficker telling an accomplice to switch to Skype in order to get details of a 2kg (4.4lb) drug consignment…"

    Surely now its only a matter of days before ‘terrorism’ makes it necessary for skype to share the encryption key
