Microsoft has revealed a small business IP phone system and it has been code named Response Point. Available in easy to install box, the new system is supporting both VoIP and traditional phone lines and has a voice activated user interface. As of now it is in beta and three models will be made available in later part of the year dubbed as Quanta Syspine, D-Link DVX-2000 and Uniden Evolo respectively. This system is expected to enable small businesses to manage system changes by their own. It is expected to simplify the tasks for smaller businesses.

RichTosi, President, Uniden America Corp stated:

Voice communication for end users would become easier with Response Point. Since phone systems are an important routine in the life of small businesses the team working on Response Point created a specialized architecture for optimizing system reliability. This system demonstrates the commitment of Microsoft towards the field of VoIP.

All the three phones will be able to connect to VoIP phones and can be configured through users' computer and are voice activated. These phones have also been programmed for auto dialing other internal phone lines or numbers from the Outlook contact list of the user.
It was bit surprising to find that companies such Netgear and Linksys did not make to the list of hardware partners for this system. Anyways the beta release is expected in the month of April.

The "Response Point" phone system software makes the voice communications experience much easier for end users. "The 'Response Point' voice commands and speech-enabled auto-attendant will offer users a powerful experience that differs radically from other small-business phone systems on the market. A small-business employee can press one button on the handset of a cordless phone and then access anyone in the company directory, anyone in his Outlook contacts, and a range of calling features with a few simple words. That is a very powerful user experience.

Though there's little surprise that the Cisco-owned SME hardware maker, Linksys, is missing from the list of partner, what is more surprising is that leading SME hardware maker NETGEAR isn't among them and Quanta is.
