It's been a while since I've looked at Mobivox, but given the historic rise of Skype is slowing down according to eBay's Q42007 quarterly report, one has to start looking for other ways for Skype to grow.
Certainly Skype is making itself available on many devices, but let's face it: a good percentage of the population doesn't want to deal with making calls on a PC or "some other device." They just want to pick up the phone and make a call with their normal telephone handset that they already know how to use.
This is where Mobivox comes in. Sure, you have to go to a web site to sign up and enter your contacts. Once you've done that, though, you simply call a local number. "VoxGirl" answers your call, and you simply tell her whom you want to call. If the person is a MobiVox member-or a Skype buddy-the call is free. Otherwise, VoxGirl will warn you the call isn't free. You'll pay USD $0.019 a minute to 40 different countries. Other countries have higher rates, but it's likely to be cheaper than a conventional phone call all the same.
If you're looking for a cheap, easy way to get someone you know using VoIP, give Mobivox a try!

mobivox is one of the few services that does not involve SIP(or skype itself) that i use on a regular basis. and the thing is i have never had to give them even a single penny. not quite sure if it is something i would pay for; i tend to be very cheap when it comes to telecom services.
would be really cool if they added other VOIP services in addition to skype. perhaps the popular IM sytems like gtalk and live messanger if not SIP.
There’s no reason they couldn’t. Maybe I should ask their PR folks about that.
