Native Skype On Symbian Finally Coming?

33339706.jpg

Markus Göbel is claiming that he was told about an upcoming Skype client for Symbian at the recent Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. While he's not at liberty to disclose who it is, he can say that it's not Skype itself and it's not Fring, which is the only way at the present to make a Skype call over the data network.

I guess I'm a little skeptical, but I have no reason not to believe Markus, either. At the end of the day, we'll just have to wait and see. Am I interested in a native Skype client for my Nokia N95? You bet!

i this company has truly developed a skype client and not a workaround that involves instances of skype running on their servers(the way fring, iskoot, barablu, nimbuzz and a half dozen other skype on mobile solutions work) than the implications will likely spread far beyond symbian. it could mean the breaking down of the skype ‘walled garden’

We’ll just have to wait and see. Native would be the only semi-scalable way to do it.
