One of the benefits of using open standards is that interoperability, while not guaranteed, becomes much easier. SightSpeed and Leadtek both have products that both speak the same language: SIP for call signaling, and H.263 for video. It therefore makes sense that they could be made to interoperate with one another.
And now, they have. SightSpeed issued a press release stating that their video calling service was now compatible with Leadtek's line of IP Surveillance cameras. For a SightSpeed user wishing to connect to their Leadtek camera, it is a simple matter of adding the IP camera into the buddy list.
To attach one of Leadtek's IP Camera to SightSpeed, register a separate SightSpeed account for the IP Camera and configure it according to this FAQ.
My experience with Leadtek's IP telephones from a few years ago was pretty good on the video quality. I suspect that experience has migrated to their IP Surveillance cameras also, thus working well with SightSpeed. I'd love to hear what your experience is with this product combination, so leave a comment!
