Skype on Your TV, Courtesy Oregon
Oregan Networks has come up with a system to enable Skype features such as message alerts and caller ID on standard television sets. It is in the midst of developing a system which would offer full Skype functionality from the arm chair. As of now the system would allow a user to be alerted to an incoming caller or message, see their caller ID and either dismiss the call or send a standard response. It would not be possible to take calls currently.

The Skype functionality is a part of oregon's Media Browser software which has a TV browser, IPTV client and a DLNA player and server based on open standards for web content authoring and distribution. Wait a second, this system is not Skype Certified and the company has not collaborated with the peer to peer phone company for developing the system.

This is being done by the company to enable the non-PC market to tap into any time, any place connectivity and fresh dynamic content through internet technologies. Next time I switch on my TV and am lost in the unreal world, I know Skype would bring me back to the real world through my TV.
