Skype slashes SMS rates by half

skype sms slashed by half.jpg

Skype wants its user to get addicted to its SMS service and knows pretty well that it can generate a lot of revenue as a result. Cellular companies would need to rework their strategy as the company has slashed its SMS rates by nearly half. SMS send to countries such as Australia, Austria, Belgium, Ireland, Italy, Poland, Russia, taiwan, Thailand and US are covered under this special offer. Earlier message sent to users in Australia, Thailand and US were priced at $0.088, $0.063 and $0.112 respectively. One can either use their PCs or cell phones for enjoying this offer.

Cellular companies had recently hiked the SMS rate but Skype has gone against the tide and brought down SMS charges. It seems that now even cellular companies might be forced to bring down their SMS rates as a result. Good move Skype!!

US carriers charge $.15 or more per text message. Hope to see more price cut in the future.
