Skype recently released a series of significant updates - Skype 3.0 for Windows Mobile, Skype 1.1 for the iPhone, and Skype 4.1 for Windows.
"[The] release of version 3.0 for Windows Mobile should get Skype users plenty excited," writes InformationWeek's Eric Zeman. "It still offers free Skype-to-Skype calling, free instant messaging, and cheap(er) calls to regular cell phones and landlines. The new features include the ability to pass files via Skype-to-Skype... [and to] send SMS text messages from within the application to other mobile phones."
"Skype 1.1 for iPhone and iPod Touch reintroduces the capability to listen to Skype voicemail and to send and receive SMS messages," writes CNET's Jessica Dolcourt. "These features had been available on the desktop version, but were not activated when Skype first came out for iPhone.
There are a few visual tweaks, also, which gloss up the look and feel of a few screens, most notably the dial pad."
"Skype 4.1 [for Windows]... includes screen sharing, which means you can now see what's going on on other folks' computers in real time," according to Stuff.tv. "You can choose either full screen or pick which area of real estate you want your buddy to see. Either way, it's ideal for helping friends fix issues with their PC or read over their work. It's now also possible to send contacts to friends and you even get birthday reminders, just in case your myriad social network pages forget to keep you bang up-to-date..."
