TechCrunch's Michael Arrington is reporting that Google has developed a Google Voice desktop application, which will allow Google Voice users to place and receive calls from their PC.

"When will the new application launch? Possibly soon," Arrington writes.

"Internal testing is allegedly underway of software that places Google Voice on the desktop and makes it a full-on Skype competitor," writes AppScout's Eric Griffith. "Finally."

"Skype, the good old days are over," writes I4U News' Robert Evans. "You're about to be in the fight of your life."

"If TechCrunch's sources are accurate… this will unchain Google Voice numbers from physical phones," writes Download Squad's Jay Hathaway. "You'll be able to use your Google number the same way that people use SkypeIn numbers now: you won't have to have an actual phone, but you can receive any kind of incoming call on your desktop."
