The Year In VoIP: Q2 2007

Here's some highlights from 2nd Quarter 2007:

GrandCentral Goes Mobile, Get's Bought By Google: In March, I got to meet Craig Walker of GrandCentral, where he showed me their new (at the time) mobile interface, bringing "visual voicemail" to any web-enabled handset. Then of course, a short time later, they got acquired by Google. I am a little concerned we haven't heard much about the GrandCentral service since the acquisition, but that seems fairly typical for Google acquisitions. Maybe we'll hear something in 2008?

Jangl Drops Jangl ID, Goes With Email Addresses: Jangl's service used to require something called a Jangl ID, which allowed you to "anonymously" talk to someone without knowing their real number. Since then, they've switched to using email addresses and (later) social networking profiles.

AllFreeCalls.Net becomes Yak4Ever: Attempt #2 of Pat Phelan's attempt at upending the weird telecom regulations in the US in an effort to give people access to free international calling. Pity he couldn't get the big telcos to play along.

'Great information especially nowadays where the development is amazingly fast.'

I find it very creative and with unique news, which I think is great compared to some other blogs that just copy other blog's content.
