The ZyXEL Prestige W2000 VoIP Phone - Good For Indoors
Filed in archive IP Business Phone by gautam on April 24, 2006

It is a smart, slim Wi-Fi phone which gives a retro look and has a small, mono screen and a reasonably sized keypad as well as a socket for a standard mobile phone style headset. The phone can be charged either using a USB cable or the supplied power adapter which makes it a compact portable package. If the phone is to be used for purposes other than internal calls in the office then one needs to set up an account with a VoIP service. The phone is priced at £140 plus VAT.
Plus side of this phone is that it can be easily installed and it would not take more than 10 to 15 minutes to install it. If the internet speed is fast enough it delivers a good quality speed.
The downside of this phone is that since it uses the SIP, it does not work with BT's Broadband services or Skype but it can work with Gradwell.com or Sipgate. I really feel sorry for the customers of BT and Skype.
Another thing, the phone supports multiple profiles for use on wireless networks but only one for a VoIP service so there might be some problem in setting up to work with different providers in the office.
Since the phone has no in built web browser it cannot be set up to work with wireless hotspots operated by providers such as BT Openzone and T-Mobile.
This phone is excellent for office use but for outdoors not a good choice. Overall not a bad phone.
