A number of companies in India have been offering online tutoring service where using VoIP students can get their problems sorted out by skilled tutors sitting in India and that too at unbelievable prices which even a common man can afford. You can take the example of Tutorvista which offers unlimited tutoring for £50 per month in UK whereas the going rate in the country can be as high as £50 per hour in case one engages a tutor and you can very well guess that common people could surely benefit from it as a result. With broadband making inroads in India VoIP technology is being used for imparting education by these well educated tutors who are adept at their particular subjects. Certainly students can hone their mathematical skills at amazing costs using VoIP and even the parents won't feel the burden of high cost of education. I feel this is one of the best uses that VoIP could be put use to.

Anything that makes tutoring services more affordable is a good thing in my opinion. With online tutors entering the market, and with VoIP making things cheaper, it will certainly help. It's especially helpful for schools and local libraries that want to help their students get extra homework help. Now that online tutoring is more affordable, they are able to offer open tutoring hours, where any one can come in and use the computers to get live homework help.
I don't think that online or VoIP can ever replace face-to-face tutoring, but they each have their uses. I would just like to point out to parents and teachers that they should consider each child's case individually, think about what kind of help they need and how much before deciding on conventional or online tutoring. There is a lot of good information on online tutoring services and tutors and their relative merits at this site: http://www.tutoring-services.com/online-tutoring-and-tutors.html
