VoIP is 'expensive' and 'unsafe' as per Vodafone

People who don't appreciate VoIP or find it a tough competition are finding out ways to bring it down. Recently Vodafone had removed the VoIP option for Nokia N95 phones in UK which raised a lot of furor and the company has been telling its customers that VoIP service is insecure. One of El Reg readers who contacted Vodafone received an email from the company regarding its thoughts on VoIP.

This explains that VoIP is an expensive and unsafe way to communicate. "Expensive" is certainly true, depending on the data tariff, "unsafe" should really be justified, especially with Sky News whipping up a storm about terrorists using VoIP to evade detection.

Who will believe Vodafone who has been selling unrestricted Nokia N95 in Australia and in UK it is following the opposite? Can Vodafone come up with some sane answer which we all can digest easily? Probably it's just an old trick by the companies to ward off threatening competition.
