VoIP Snooping Gets the Final Nod

A ruling from US courts last week has given the nod to the authorities to continue tapping VoIP calls and that the VoIP providers must allow them access to their networks. The Court of appeals said that the VoIP companies had the same responsibilities as traditional phone companies.

As per The Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act, the phone companies are required to provide access to law enforcement officials and they are required to pay and maintain for the equipment so that it becomes easier for the officials to listen to the conversations.

Certainly the government could use this law for their own purpose and fulfill their vested interests and the end users would be left gasping for more privacy. How far it is justifies?
