Vonage always seems to be in the firing line and this has never surprised me. It keeps on facing lawsuits from its competitors and other companies which if I start recalling about would put me to sleep but here is a very interesting lawsuit that Vonage is facing. In a lawsuit Verizon has gone ahead and accused Vonage of stealing its VoIP technology and is seeking court's help in order to prevent Vonage from continuing with its business. Verizon has gone ahead and said that Vonage has stolen the basics of their business.
Verizon has stated a number of instances of infringement which includes inventions relating to gateway interfaces between packet-switched and circuit-switched network, which is necessary for implementing commercially-viable VoIP telephony. Not only this, the company has gone ahead and cited information contained in Vonage's IPO filing in order to support most of its arguments. Sounds pretty smart!!
To me it seems more of a gimmick of Verizon just to give doses to its competitors at regular intervals and it would be hard to digest this suit as most of the VoIP technology is derived from SIP. The immediate effect was seen when Vonage's share plummeted by twelve percent on the bourses. Let's see what happens.
