Was Sunrocket Bought?

Seeing a rumor that Sunrocket was acquired by Pluto, I decided to go peek at the Sunrocket site again. Whereas before I was unable to sign up for service, now I am. I didn't go through the signup process beyond selecting a plan, of course, but I wasn't able to get that far earlier. Hm…

This pluto rumor conflicts with what is being reported on Broadband Reports. The report, which is sourced from an email they had received, is that Sherwood Partners is currently in negotiations with other VoIP providers to transfer Sunrocket customers to their service. Customers would be notified when their service is transitioned to someone else, or so the theory goes.

Now my question is: why would a VoIP provider want to acquire someone else's customer who prepaid for service at a less-than-profitable rate? Will the new provider honor the previous contract with Sunrocket, despite the fact it will cost the provider to do so? What's going to happen if an agreement is not reached? Will customer's service go dark? Supposedly, one Sunrocket customer commented here and said their service isn't working right now.

We'll keep tracking this story here on the VoIP Weblog. Meanwhile, feel free to continue to share your experiences in the comments.

I have had sunrocket service for 1 1/2 years. The service was completely dead yesterday morning, the 17th–no dial tone, nothing. What now? I am wondering about the 6 months of prepaid service I have left–and I know that there are many who are worse off than me….

I think you and everyone else are wondering. Supposedly Packet8 has been chosen as the “preferred” place to go, whatever that means.
