Would VoIP phones Get Costlier with Rising Copper Prices?
Are you aware that copper comprises 19% of most mobile phones and with Wi-Fi and with VoIP phones sharing the same basic construction components, the usage of copper in these phones is similar to that of cell phones.

With the copper futures for May delivery rising to $ 2.439 on the Comex on March 30, this is the highest level ever achieved and with the prices expected to shoot further; I was wondering whether it would be affecting the prices of VoIP phones also.

Even though developments in chip technology have driven the prices of these handsets lower still it is expected that in some way or the other the copper prices may have an affect on the VoIP phone prices. Certainly the rising copper prices will have an affect on the phone prices with it forming a major part of the phone component. Now it's needed to be seen whether the manufacturers would absorb these costs in the highly competitive market or pass these on to the consumers. Time will tell.
