At CTIA Wireless today, VoIP-based mobile operator Zer01 Mobile announced plans to launch nationwide on July 1st of this year with its $69.99 'True' unlimited voice and data plan.
According to MobileBurn's Michael Oryl, the company "has data agreements with multiple carriers that will provide its users unlimited voice and data service on supported smartphones. At launch time, only Windows Mobile 6 and newer smartphones will be supported, but the company has said that it expects to expand onto the BlackBerry, Android, and iPhone smartphone platforms 'within months.'"
"Here's how it works: Zer01's Veritable Mobile Convergence (VCM) technology bypasses carrier circuits by using VoIP to send calls into a virtual private network," explains Laptop Mag's Dana Wollman. "During the activation period, it will take about five minutes for your SIM to be updated with your Zer01 plan. Consumers can bring their own mobile phone to the table or buy one from Zer01's online store."
