Pat Phelan is a class act. In the process of launching Cubic Telecom's new MaxRoam service, they made several errors with regards to pricing. These were, according to Pat, technical errors likely caused by working many long hours to get the service launched. Some of those errors propagated to an article written by David Pogue in the New York Times reviewing the service prior to it's launch.
On the day of the MaxRoam launch, the pricing listed in the David Pogue article was different than what was showing on MaxRoam's site. Pat Phelan did apologize for the gaff in his blog and put a more official explanation on the MaxRoam site.
Companies make mistakes. It's nice to see CEOs take responsibility for when their company makes them. Even if MaxRoam's prices weren't as low as we thought, they're still a good deal.

Pat Phelan is a class act. I have never known him to lie or misrepresent. The only thing I know him to be guilty of is he's a startup. Sometimes, things go whacky despite the very best of intentions. David Pogue's handling of this story in the NY Times, if you ask me, diminishes the author;s credibility. I am disappointed in him.

Considering how it could have been handled, things could have been a lot worse.
