GotVoice provides a rather interesting service: they retrieve voicemails off of the various voicemail systems and provide you with a single, unified view of your voicemail. I've written about them previously. If you're not quite ready for the one-number approach of GrandCentral, it's a nice way to web-enable your voicemail from a few phones.
Now the folks at GotVoice have added the ability to transcribe voicemail messages into SMS. The caller leaves a message as usual. When GotVoice retrieves the voicemail, it is interpreted into text words and sent to you as an SMS. I have no idea how well this works, but it sounds like a nifty idea!

It is a really nifty idea, unfortunately now that I’ve tried it (not through Gotvoice specifically but there are a number of companies offering this service) I have to say that I don’t think the transcription technology is quite there yet. As for web-enabling my voicemail I’ve been a http://www.youmail.com user for a while because they offer customizable voicemail messages for as many callers as you like, and of course, because it’s free.
GrandCentral does something similar, though I think it’s by group. You can’t go quite the per-caller route.
