TechCrunch's Michael Arrington reports that a group of venture capital and private equity firms are working together to acquire Skype from current owner eBay.
"Investors in the proposed purchase may include newly-formed Andreessen Horowitz, Index Ventures (who were early investors in Skype before the ebay acquisition), and one or more multi-billion dollar private equity firms," Arrington writes.
"The rumours come after eBay said earlier this year it would spin off Skype in an initial public offering during 2010, with chief executive John Donahoe saying at a Barcelona retail conference that eBay would accept no less than $2 billion for the company," notes SmartCompany's Patrick Stafford.
