The company with its strong grounding is trying to address the opportunities and challenges presented by VoIP. The Nokia Communication Suite equips businesses and consumers with software which converts their computer into softphone for making VoIP calls with the added convenience of a single account. Nokia has labeled such calls as 'rich calls'.
Nokia said in a statement:
The solution allows operators to offer seamless services across their fixed broadband and 3G mobile broadband networks, bridging these two domains...Users can make and receive VoIP calls and other rich calls from their PCs using their existing mobile number. Calls to their mobile number can be answered with either their mobile or PC softphone." These 'rich calls' can include VoIP calls, video sharing, video calls, instant messaging, presence, file sharing, and other multimedia services.
