New Application
by Dameon Welch-Abemathy on February 8, 2008

The nice thing about Private Phone was that each person was given their own local telephone number. SimpleVoiceBox doesn't do this, but instead gives a telephone number and extension in some rural part of the U.S. where they actually make money on inbound calls. At least if you use Numbr, you can get a local number in some locations.
If you truly want your own private number, take a look at K7, which is run by a Seattle-based CLEC. Numbers will be assigned in the Seattle and surrounding areas. Or, if you can finagle an invite for it, GrandCentral.

I am aware or the Numbr situation, though I thought by now they resolved it. Sounds like I need to check in with the folks over there once again. ;)

Grand Central is great, and easy to get an invite too - but they also only have a few select local numbers - from teeny towns even - I live in a major city and nothing local, but towns all around me woth populations under 100 - have GC numbers

Just read this on the numbr site:
We are scaling our infrastructure to support rapid user base growth. During this upgrade, new Numbr allocation is limited to a select set of invited users.
Thanks for your continued support and feedback. Please come back later for some exciting updates.
