This particular press release isn't a surprise to me, given my past conversations with SightSpeed CEO Peter Csathy. Distance learning is a clear application of video over IP, yet we don't see a whole lot of "video" in distance learning.
SightSpeed's video compression technology is considered the gold standard. It's just what you want to deploy in a learning situation where clear, crisp video and audio is necessary. Certainly, this is required for many distance learning situations to be successful.
SightSpeed will advise the US Distance Learning Association in order to help them focus and define education initiatives involving distance learning. A tall order, but I have no doubt the SightSpeed folks are up for the challenge.
