VoIP calls get expensive for US soldiers in South Korea

From now on US soldiers will have a tough time calling their loved ones back home from South Korea. Earlier the US military was able to make and receive calls to and from US for as low as $15 per month using the services of Vonage and Lingo but from now on contracts would have to be made with South Korean VoIP providers which could mean increased bills for calling back home.

Since these people were assigned a US number therefore they did not incur any international call charges which could have affected their monthly bill. A year ago LG Dacom which is one of the major internet service providers in Korea had said that their company would be blocking all those internet calls which were not registered under the Korean Telecommunications Business Act but after the intervention of U.S. Forces Korea Commander this move was delayed for a year. Looks like military personnel will have to shell out more in order to get connected back home.
