This solution is the software upgradation to Nokia's Flexi Intelligent Service Node (ISN) and expect it to be available in the first half of 2007. Acting as a centralized control point for data services, Nokia Flexi ISN provides cellular network users with data connectivity. The up gradation would be improving the service subscriber and access awareness capabilities of network node enabling it to identify data traffic as per the type of service.
Nokia said one of its statements:
They can then treat that "traffic in a way that best optimizes the use of network resources according to the operators' business strategy.
With high speed mobile data access on the rise, operators are facing the question of how to utilize their networks in the best possible manner where P2P applications are putting load on the traffic and competing with their services. Rather than controlling P2P, this solution seems to be more of a way of offering operators distortion free voice applications.
It seems that with this step Nokia is not saying goodbye to VoIP but this solution is expected to give greater control to content providers as they would be able to prioritize the traffic of preferred services.
